“I remember the loud hooting well“, says Rainer Fackert, CEO IMS Messsysteme GmbH, in looking back at his first visit to India. The traffic situation was something new to him and the bedlam irritating for us Europeans. India was not unknown to us. Rainer Fackert and Nagesh Patel from the company Maco had already been working together for some time. Alec Shaw, our sales representative at that time, had mediated the first contact back in 1999.
The plan in Germany was to form a company to increase our activities in the field of service. For IMS, the only option was a joint venture. In 2005 Mr Fackert and Mr Schultes travelled to India to find a suitable business partner. “We didn’t want to give away know-how, but find a good partner to establish ourselves on the Indian market,” says Mr Fackert. Maco Corporation (India) Pvt. Ltd. was chosen as partner for the joint venture. “They were very well organised and seemed the best choice, which has proven true to this day.”
The memorandum of understanding was signed on 8 July 2005 and in 2006 the company started operating. Personnel were despatched from Germany for a while to help build up the service organisation and train staff. Since our qualified service team is your first point of contact locally, we had to coordinate workflows and pool our joint resources. “The early days were difficult, but today the company consists of a very successful service team of 12”, says Mr Neckel, head of the services department.
»After 10 years of successful work, India has developed into one of the most important markets for IMS«, says Mr Fackert, adding with a smile, „the traffic situation in Kolkata has also eased somewhat.“
