The topometric strip flatness measuring system
TopPlan is an important addition to the range
of gauging systems already available for process
control and quality assurance.

The principle of topometric flatness measurement
used in the TopPlan gauge provides a three
dimensional presentation of the surface structure
over large areas of strip. Deviations from the
reference level at the strip passline, due to the
presence of waves in the body of the coil and/or at
the strip edges, lead to distortions of the straight
lines projected onto the strip surface by the
projector.

Hot strip

Correct processing of the primary measuring data from the TopPlan camera produces mathematical
expressions representing the strip flatness. The basis of measurement is formed by the projected-fringe technique.

A projector projects an array of light/dark stripes onto the surface of the measuring material (strip or plate)
covering the full width of the measuring material. A CCD matrixcamera detects the illuminated area continually.
