Possible use

Our non-contact optical measuring systems can
detect, continuously and with uncompromising
accuracy, the contours of a great variety
of objects.

They thus guarantee comprehensive geometrical
data for rolling mills and tube mills and for the
industries using their products.

Optical systems on-line and without contact capture the geometrical characteristics of the end product, for
carrying out indirect process control.

These systems are best suited to optical quality control and automatic production monitoring. Based on our
long years of experience in process technology and in the production of these systems, our optical measuring
technology is an efficient solution for you and can improve your competitive position.

Take advantage of our total solutions, tailored to your individual needs.

The lighting arrangements, optics, sensors and signal processing are chosen to suit the shape, size and
distance away of the objects to be measured. The optics can be chosen so as to cope with a large range of
different distances between the sensor and the target object. With our wide range of products, from simple PC
systems to the most expensive and complex installations we can find a solution to the many and various
problems in this field. These systems can record a wide variety of measurements, e.g. :

- Width
- Diameter
- Position of the object
- Crop form & crop length
- Straightness

Depending on the complexity of the task, one or more cameras may be installed. The electronics are
integrated in a protective housing, depending on the type of application and the environmental conditions. They
are also protected against unacceptably high temperatures by cooling elements, avoiding unplanned downtime.

The sensor itself, the core element of any optical system, is an intelligent CCD-camera.

The choice of a measuring system depends essentially on the material, the position of the object in the measuring
field and on the manner in which it is moved into this field of view. These considerations are vital, both to the design
of a system that is optimal for the application and also to ensure the desired accuracy.

Each system is supplied with calibrated reference objects already installed, and with a test certificate as proof
that the system conforms to national standards.

Characteristics

Our systems have, among others, the following performance characteristics:

- Resolution 0,04 % of range
- Sampling rate max. 1000/s
- Continuous, non-contact data acquisition
- High reliability in service
- Intelligent CCD-camera
- Infrared measurement, back-lighting
- Robust, heavy duty rolling-mill construction

Measuring points in different explanations

The following overview shows you a few examples of possible applications:

Stereoscopic width gauge

Measuring system with two or more CCD
cameras for use in all cold and hot, flat and
tubular applications.

The light source is provided by backlight, or
by the infrared radiation from the measuring
object.
Width gauge with positionable cameras

Two or four CCD cameras, positioned
according to the nominal strip width, detect
the edges of the strip or plate with high
accuracy.

The system will install in cold and hot area.
