Use and technique

The cross strip thickness profile is determined
from the measurement signals provided by an
array of detectors measuring simultaneously and
in parallel across the width of the strip.
The number of detectors is determined mainly
by the maximum strip width.

The x-ray sources are mounted in the top arm of
the c-frame and the detectors in the bottom, at
right angles to the strip flow direction.


Multi-channel, hot strip

The arrangement of the detectors and x-ray sources is such that any two adjacent detectors are
illuminated by radiation from different angles.

This measuring channel arrangement is essential for the determination of the cross-strip thickness profile
and strip contour measurement. The whole C-frame is made to oscillate in the cross-strip direction at a
constant frequency of 1.5 to 2 Hz. This ensures that thickness measurement takes place over the full strip width.
